In the beginning "Tajen" is part of religious rituals or tabuh rah sata take place in the Balinese Hindu community. Which of these tabu rah requires a trickle of blood as a symbol / terms cleanse mankind from greed / greed of materialistic values and worldly. Tabuh rah is also significant as a blind ritual Yadnya which blood drips to the earth symbolized mankind requests to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa to avoid distress.

In Yadnya ceremonies in Hindu-Balinese known matatabuhan or matabuh term, namely, the process of sowing the five colors of liquid. Five colors are: white symbolized by the wine, yellow symbolized by the wine, which is symbolized by berem black, red symbolized by the sprinkling of animal blood, and the last Brumbun namely by mixing the four colors. In line with the dynamics of social life of the people of Bali, has been movement in the meaning of the ritual and the tabuh rah, tabuh rah in which meaning has been manipulated or take place sata and diterminologikan as Tajen. Yet when examined, red drum and tajen is a different sense, but in reality red drum used shields to hold tajen.
